The Other Side of Ego Nobody Talks About
Why would my ego be the voice that doubts me?
I've always heard that self-doubt comes from ego, but I never fully understood why until now. During meditation this evening, a thought came up: "You are a fraud. Who are you to think you are capable of any of this?"
I took a deep breath and labeled it for what it was: ego. Not truth.
Then another realization landed: Why would my ego feed me negativity in the first place?
Because it's trying to protect me.
The ego uses doubt and self-sabotage as a defense mechanism. It say's "don't do it" because taking action invites risk, uncertainty, and exposure. Any exposure makes me vulnerable. Vulnerable to fear, loss, rejection, and pain.
So my ego isn't attacking me. It's trying to keep me safe by keeping me small.
At its core, that negative voice isn't wisdom. It's fear.
Once I saw that, it made perfect sense.
